Egungun leaked video causes social media uproar
Nigerians were shocked when the wife of popular content creator, Kuye Adegoke, aka Egungun of Lagos, defended her husband after his leaked private video.
The leaked video shows Egungun of Lagos brushing his teeth during a video call with an unidentified woman in the background, with his private part dangling.
In what appears to be a housekeeping exercise, Pashotah, the wife of Egungun, announced that blackmail was in the offing against her husband.
She took to her Instagram on Sunday to defend the husband, saying, “Hi guys, someone is blackmailing me with my husband’s videos. My name is Pashotah and y’all know my husband is, obviously I know so many people have wanted to bring both of us down including guys and girls.
“I always choose to ignore but I’m not ignoring today cuz the blackmailer didn’t go to Egungun of Lagos directly to blackmail him but he came to me instead cos (sic) he has a motive of putting me to shame like he said his messages above but one thing he (blackmailer) doesn’t know is that this relationship between myself and my husband is not just built today, this relationship has been coming for over 6-8 years when we both had nothing. This relationship is built on trust, understanding, loyalty, commitment and so many more. So there is nothing that can bring us down, not even now.”
The development sparked widespread reactions online, with many questioning Egungun’s earlier image as a family-oriented man.
For many netizens, Egungun’s action is a betrayal of his wife’s trust. Others however pointed to the possibility of the video being a misinterpretation or an old clip intended to tarnish his image.
A user who identified as #Dr Penking on X.com wrote, “So Egungun wife watched that video and still had the temerity to come out and defend him? I thought we all agreed that Nigerian women now know their worth. Where was she when that decision was made? ”
Another user, Peace Ighodaro, said, “Egungun’s wife is the perfect definition of an understanding wife.”
A Facebook user, Billzcollecshun, who also spoke on the matter, wrote, “Women supporting men in the mud, she must have left their association overnight.”
Mercy Akuma in her opinion, said, “Egungun wife has every right to stick to her man no matter what she seesIt’s her choice.”
Meanwhile, a user with the name, Mr Afowose opined, “So she should leave him and go where?
“Yo, another man that would still cheat and not love her like her husband is doing? The fact that y’all think a man cheating and a woman cheating is the same will always be funny because women will choose a cheater who is taking care of her 50 times over a broke niqqa.”
Another user on X.com, who tweeted with the name #Chance Da Mayor, said, “Wait oh! una want make she leave her husband? Her place is with her husband oh forget the blackmailer issue. I respect her defence.”
Jimmy01 in his remark said, “She knows she has a lot to loose if she comes out offensively of her husband,and to the media,she has to be defensive of her husband and behind,something is really hitting her so hard,cos wtf her husband private vid is up for everyone to see on the media….Hell No.”
David Isemin wrote, “She would have just stayed silent on the matter. That would have been a more better damage control.”
As of the time of filing this report, Egungun of Lagos has yet to address the controversy, and his wife has not released any additional statement.
