Austin Eguavoen has failed to clarify who will take charge of the Super Eagles, qualifying matches against arch-rival and neighbours Ghana.
Nigeria are expected to play a two-legged tie against their West African rivals in March 2022, for a place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
Eguavoen as an interim manager led the Super Eagles to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where they were ousted in the round of 16 by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

Following the teams’ exit, the 56-year-old announced he would be reverting to his role as Technical Director at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
However, the Nigerian tactician after defeating Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau, seems to have won the hearts of the fans and pundits, and they want him to continue despite the early exit of the team.
But speaking with BBC Africa Sport, he was asked about who will be in charge of the two-legged World Cup qualifying ties against Ghana and he said:
“That I cannot answer.
“The only thing that I can tell you is I’m still the technical director of the federation and I am happy with that”
His response has prompted Nigerians to take to the various social media platforms and insinuate that despite the appointment of Jose Perriero, Eguavoen will likely take charge of the games.
