EFCC doing selective justice for its silence on Ganduje while prosecuting other political figures, they say

More than 100 Civil Society Organisations in the Committee Against Oppression and Persecution (COMAP) have accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of shielding Abdullahi Ganduje while prosecuting others accused of corruption.

They said the graft buster is doing selective justice for keeping silent on the allegation of $413,000 and N1.38 billion bribe levelled against Ganduje, former Kano Governor whom President Bola Tinubu hand picked for his current post as All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman.

The new Kano State administration of Governor Abba Yusuf alleged the sum was received as bribe by Ganduje, his wife Hafsat, son Umar, and six others when he was Governor.

The state government in April filed charges in court against Ganduje and the others but efforts to serve them the charges have not been successful.

Their absence stalled their arraignment in the Kano State High Court, leading to adjournment for at least four times, which last week prompted presiding Judge Amina Aliyu to order their trial in absentia.

COMAP Chairman Ibrahim Kure and Secretary Udoji Franklin on Thursday wondered why the EFCC allows Ganduje to walk free despite the corruption charges against him.

“Aside from Ganduje, there are many pending cases that the anti-graft agency has tactically abandoned,” the duo said in a statement.

“If the EFCC cannot engage in a just fight against corruption, starting from within its ranks, they should stop molesting vulnerable political figures.

“It is high time we saddled people with the real responsibilities of tackling corruption in Nigeria and not executing dangerous political survival strategies for paymasters.”
