Zenith Bank Plc has debunked reports that its Managing Director, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Several news platforms reported on Tuesday that the Managing Directors of Zenith Bank, Providus Bank, Unity Bank, and Jaiz Bank were arrested by the EFCC in connection with the ongoing investigation into the financial misappropriation charges levelled against the former Minister of the Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, and her successor Betta Edu.
It was also claimed that the bank executives were detained.
Reacting to this, the company secretary and general counsel, Michael Otu, said in a statement on Wednesday that Mr Onyeagwu was neither arrested nor detained by the EFCC.
