“The Commission wishes to state that no such operation was carried out by the EFCC. The public is enjoined to disregard the report as fake news.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday debunked the story making the rounds in the social media that its operatives raided the home of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A story that went viral on Sunday claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the EFCC to raid Tinubu’s house where N400 billion of the new currency was allegedly recovered from his underground house.

The story further claimed that investigations are still going on as to which bank manager made such money accessible to him.

“Tinubu holding N400 billion alone is like holding the entire money printed for the whole Nigeria,” the story claimed.

But in a swift reaction on Sunday evening EFCC enjoined Nigerians to disregard the story and treat it as fake news.

Titled “EFCC Did Not Raid Tinubu’s Home,” the statement read: “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a report circulating in the social media, claiming that operatives of the Commission raided the home of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming presidential elections and recovered a humongous sum of N400 billion.

“The Commission wishes to state that no such operation was carried out by the EFCC. The public is enjoined to disregard the report as fake news.”
