The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa on Wednesday had his first interactive meeting with members of the Senate Committee on anti-corruption and Financial Crimes, since his assumption of office.
Welcoming the EFCC boss, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Suleiman Abdul Kwari, once again congratulated Bawa on his confirmation as EFCC Chairman. He said the Committee invited him to update them on his activities in all the mandate areas of the Commission since assuming office.
The meeting offered the Executive Chairman opportunity to brief the Committee on his reform measures as well as critical areas the Commission would require the intervention of the Committee to enhance its work.
Members of the Committee took turns to either ask questions or make comments on the activities of the EFCC, and generally on the challenges of fighting corruption Nigeria.
The meeting ended with the Committee promising to visit the Commission on oversight in the weeks ahead.
In another development, the South East Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Oshodi Johnson has charged staff of the Zone to be altruistic in pursuit of the Commission’s mandate, stating that the Anti-graft agency could only achieve its mission with a dedicated and disciplined staff.
Oshodi gave the charge while delivering the monthly Zonal Head’s Lecture at the zonal headquarters, Independence Layout, Enugu on Tuesday. ‘‘The Staff Regulation is clear on our expected behaviour with regards to our work and conducts.
‘’You must live above board on issues of integrity and professionalism as failure to do so will attract necessary sanctions’’ he warned.
Speaking further, Oshodi stressed the importance of positive attitude to workplace performance. “At the end of the day, you should be able to evaluate yourselves, take a deep breath and ask if your attitude is adding positive or negative value to the system or contributing to the realization of the Commission’s mandate.’’
The zonal lecture is a monthly initiative designed to sensitise, re-orientate and mobilize staff as part of the Executive Chairman’s determination to reposition the EFCC.
