Edo State schools resume Monday as Madojiemu U-15 Athletics meet hots-up

Primary and Secondary schools in Edo State will resume on Monday to enable talented students prepare for the 2nd edition of Princess Mabel Madojiemu U-15 Athletics meet.

The grassroots athletics Competition will commence on September 29-30th, 2022 inside Ogbemudia Stadium.

According to the co-ordinator of the Athletics event, Mutiu Oluwa, schools resumption would be an added advantage to have access to school sports training facilities.


“We are happy schools are resuming two weeks to the competition, this would accord students the opportunity of using schools sports facilities to prepare for the meet. While at home, Games masters and students are handicapped in accessing facilities for training,” Oluwa said.


Two weeks to the competition, Oluwa said, plans are nearing completion for a successful host of the tourney in Benin adding that young athletes will have swell time as friends and well wishers are donating funds and trophies for overall best athlete, best Hurdler, best 100/ 200m etc.

Princess Mabel Madojiemu has continued to express her heartfelt gratitude to colleagues, companies and sports family in Australia, UK and in Edo State for their support in the project.


She reiterated her foundation’s desire in the growth of sports at the grassroots level and vowed to channel resources from the foundation towards making things happen for talented school kids.


“Perhaps, my name would not be heard today if not for people and organisations that supported under-age athletics programme like this. I encourage parents to allow their children take part in sports, no one knows how kind the future would be for them if they choose career rightly.”
