Edo State inaugurates Oyiki, Madojiemu, Enoye, others into Sports Commission Board

Yusuf Alli said their appointment was based on past and present contributions in lifting the sports  image of the State and Country at home and international fora.

No fewer than five top ex-internationals were inaugurated by Edo State Sports Commission Board and Athletics Association as members on Thursday in Benin, Edo State.

They include, Barrister Orode Oyiki, Princess Mabel Madojiemu, Apostle Henry Amike, Friday Enoye, Austin Poland Orishe and others.

Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission Yusuf Alli said their appointment was based on past and present contributions in lifting the sports  image of the State and Country at home and international fora.

He expressed hope that with their new status, the ex-athletes he described as standard bearers would help in lifting Edo Sports to greater heights  in the foreseeable future.

Others appointed to function in the Commission’s board and AthIetics Association are; Edokpayi Omoniyi Bamidele as Board Chairman, Momodu Dauda, Mutiu Oluwa and others.

Barrister Oyiki has a huge profile in AthIetics. He attended the University of Benin, Benin City where he studied law. He represented the school at NUGA 1988 where  he placed second (silver medal) in 110m hurdles. He won gold for Bendel State at the National Sports Festival,Lagos 1989. Represented NUGA at FISU in Duisburg, in then West Germany in 1989. Placed third (bronze) at the West African University Games in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in 1989. He represented Nigeria at the African Athletics Championships in Lagos in 1989 and more.

Austin Poland Orishe, Grew up in Benin, Born of Delta Parents. Love been among

people at the same time, very diplomatic.

Been a 4OOmlh runner in Benin and Nigeria, Team Nigeria 2OO7 Paralympic team member. 

Princess Mabel Madojiemu, a tower of strength with abilities in the 400m events, attended many competitions home and abroad, namely Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Africa Championships and more. She is based in Australia. 

Friday Enoye was in the throws department (shot put) as an athlete and  presently a functional sports academy operator and owner in the US.

Recall that Princess Madojiemu, Friday Enoye and Poland Orishe have been  Championing the Sponsorship of various grassroots AthIetics projects in Nigeria,  a development that endeared them to the Edo State Sports Commission
