Edo Govt redeems pledge to Christian community

-

Edo State Government has redeemed its pledge to provide a bus for the use of the Christian Association of Nigeria, and the pledge to help in the building of the Association’s secretariat.

While redeeming the pledge by presenting the keys of a 33-seater Coaster bus to the Chairman of the State Christian Association of Nigeria, on Friday, Governor Adams Oshiomhole said although the state government may not be able to sponsor individuals on holy pilgrimage, the Government’s commitment to recognised faith-based associations which help to instill morals in the people of the state remains unshaken.

He said: “in time past, you have had cause to request for a vehicle for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and I did promise that we will provide you with a bus to assist you to move around and mobilise your members in your activities. This bus has been procured for quite some time now and I realised that we have not formally presented it to you. So I decided to invite you to formally present the bus since the request was also made formally by your leadership.

“Also, I offered to help you build your secretariat. Time is flying and I have about two and a half years to go and I do not want to be said that we made a promise that we could not fulfill. So I thought I should keep my commitment to CAN.

Oshiomhole said, “from the end of this month, we will begin to make some money available. I believe altogether, we will do about N25million to N30million monthly until we are able to provide about N250million.

He said, “Every month, we will be committed to putting the money in your account so that over the next 10 months we will be able to raise the N250 million to ensure that, that project is completed while I am still in office”.

He thanked the leadership of CAN and the entire Christians in the state for their prayers and support stressing that they have done everything possible to make the state safe from all forms of criminals.

Responding, the leader of the delegation and Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Peter Imasuen on behalf of Christians in Edo State thanked the Governor and prayed for God to continually bless him.

According to him, “For everything good, it is not always easy but with the prayers of the saint, we know this turbulent time will come to pass”.
