Edo: AIG orders arrest of four policemen’s killers

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, Rasheed Akintunde, yesterday ordered the police commissioners in Edo and Delta states to fish-out those who killed and burnt four policemen in a patrol van in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Akintunde gave the order in Benin at a security meeting over the crime situation with the commissioners of police under the Zone 5 Command

The AIG also condemned attacks on policemen in the Edo and Delta commands, resulting in the death of policemen.

The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), DSP Emeka Iheanacho, said in a statement that the AIG had ordered that the commands under the zone should intensify manhunt for bandits perpetrating crime in parts of the zon

Akintunde described the situation as appalling and ordered the arrest of the criminals. The AIG also advised policemen to be security conscious and professional in the discharge of their duties.

He warned criminals to stay clear of the zone or be prepared to face the wrath of the law. In attendance at the meeting were the Commissioners of Police Delta, Muhammad Mustapha, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo (Edo), Don Awunah (Bayelsa) and other senior officers of the zone.

Akintunde also warned that the use of illegal firearms remained prohibited; add ing that anyone caught in possession of the dangerous arms would be arrested and prosecuted

He reaffirmed the commitment of the zone to ensure adequate security of lives and property of citizens of Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states at all time.

The AIG said attacks on the policemen in different parts of the zone would not deter his men from carrying out their constitutional duties as the zone remained resolute in its fight against crime and criminality. Apart from the recent attacks on policemen, the AIG also reviewed other crime situation such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, murder, etc, in the zone, which, according to him, have gone down considerably.

He said several arrests were made and recoveries made with tremendous breakthroughs. Akintunde commended officers and men of the zone for their tireless efforts and urged them not to relent.
