In a recent interview with Channels Television, renowned media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, known for his role as the host of the popular reality TV show Big Brother Naija, disclosed his discerning perspective regarding hosting events for politicians. Obi-Uchendu highlighted the need for individuals, especially celebrities, to delineate boundaries when engaging with political figures.

Addressing the intricate dynamics of celebrity involvement in political engagements, Obi-Uchendu emphasized the weighty responsibility that accompanies such associations. He asserted that while celebrities derive livelihoods from such engagements, they must be cognizant of the potential repercussions and ethical considerations involved.

“It’s a very heavy burden and I think it’s unfair to believe that celebrities are not supposed to feed. A lot of people make their living from these things. But at the same time, when you do decide to put yourself out there, you have to understand that it comes with these heavy consequences as well. And whatever line you decide to tow, you have to be ready,” Obi-Uchendu articulated during the interview.

In the context of recent scrutiny faced by celebrities for their affiliations with politicians, Obi-Uchendu expressed his personal reservations about hosting events for certain political figures. He underscored that his decision is not solely based on party affiliations but rather on principles and ideologies exhibited by the individuals in question.

“I wouldn’t host certain gigs for certain politicians. And it’s not necessarily about the parties they belong to. It might be maybe because of the ideas that they’ve shown in the past, or whatever,” Obi-Uchendu elucidated.

However, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu maintained a nuanced perspective, acknowledging the distinction between working for individuals and serving governmental institutions. Reflecting on his past experiences, including hosting events at the Presidential Villa, he clarified that such engagements were perceived as contributions to the government rather than endorsements of specific political personalities.

“If you can draw that distinct line for yourself,” Obi-Uchendu concluded, emphasizing the importance of maintaining professional integrity and ethical discernment amidst the complexities of celebrity-politician interactions.
