Ebonyi women protests incessant killings

Hundreds of women of Amaigbo community of Etiti Edda in Afikpo South Local Government of Ebonyi State yesterday took to the street of Abakaliki to protest the incessant killings believed to be politically motivated in the area.

 

women-protestThe women, who were in tears protested across the capital city,later stormed Government house Abakaliki to register their grievances before the state government.

They had placards with inscriptions such as “say no to point and kill in Amaigbo communtiy;who is onyenku Chidi Ejem?; stop killing Amaigbo youths,who are these killers;who sets houses ablaze among other inscriptions”.

 

The women alleged that the former Special Adviser to Governor Martin on petroleum pricing and distribution is the ring leader of the hoodlums terrorizing the community.

 

Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs Herienta Amah, alleged that Ejem, who is contesting for House of Assembly seat for Afikpo south-east under the platform of PDP along side his cohorts have been going to attack those who are not supporting his party in their individual houses.

She alleged that one Udu Emegha has been killed in the process while his mother died of heart attack on hearing the ugly news of her son’s death adding that one of the victims of the attacks is currently lying critically in the hospital.

 

She noted that youths of the community are on the run because of fear of attacks by hoodlums working for politicians who want to grab power at all cost.

 

The women appealed to the state government to provide them with adequate security as their lives were in danger.

 

Addressing the women, the Secretary to the. State Government, Dr. Boniface Chima said he had listened passionately to the complaints of the women and promised that the Chief Security Officer, Chief Martin Elechi would look into their plight.
