Ebonyi State government is set to acquire about 60,000 hectares of land for rice production in the state.
The state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Senator Emmanuel Onwe, disclosed this at the weekend, while commenting on the outcome of the state executive council meetings.
He pointed out that the state government was also targeting to engage about 80,000 persons for farming, adding that the government would soon flag-off the distribution of seedlings to farmers in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.
He disclosed that the government has procured 49 tractors and that about 300 persons were undergoing training for operation of the tractors.
He further said that the government was placing much emphasis on rice cultivation and processing to consolidate on the gains recorded in rice production in the state.
Onwe described agriculture as alternative to the deplorable state of the nation’s economy.
