Member of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Mr. Segun Gbayi announced the postponement in a chat with reporters yesterday.

He explained that the postponement became necessary because of the nature of judo contest.

“Judo is a full contact, combat sport and with the EVD it will be a risky affair to go ahead with the U-17 championship”, Gbayi said.

He said the championship would only come up when the Ebola scare was over. And he expressed the hope that the scare would be over sooner rather than later.

Over 200 judokas from across the country were expected at the event organised to raise a team for the World U-17 Judo Championship.

The world tourney was billed for the United States of America in October.
