The Directorate of State Services (DSS), Minna Command, has invited two members of the Niger State House of Assembly, Malik Madaki Bosso, and Mohammed Haruna, over their alleged roles in the planned protest against the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
Madaki Bosso, representing Bosso, is the chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Labour, Services and Productivity, while Haruna representing, Bida 11, is the chairman, House Committee on Youths.
Haruna, who confirmed the invitation in Minna, said they were invited to appear at the state headquarters of the DSS by 10am via the office of the Clerk of the House.
Haruna said that their invitation to appear before the DSS may not be unconnected with their insistence on partnering with other Nigerians, Nigerlites in particular, to demand for quality service delivery and accountability from the AEDC.
Niger State alone is hosting Nigeria’s three major dams, Kainji, Shiroro and Jebba, yet cannot boast of reasonable electricity supply.
This, according to Haruna, prompted their stand against the power distribution company.
Poor supply of electricity in Niger State by the AEDC has attracted the attention of the Niger State House of Assembly, which through popular resolutions, set up a special committee and mandated it to interface and ensure improved power supply to the state.
Haruna however said that he was not deterred by the DSS invitation but remained resolute to standing with Nigerlites and carrying out the threat of shutting down the three hydro electric dams if power supply was not increased to at least 20 hours daily.
“The DSS asked us to come obviously on matters arising from the committee’s threat; and by extension, the state house of assembly over irregular and erratic power supply in the state. I have nothing to worry about, nothing to fear.
“Virtually all stakeholders are involved; labour unions, youth organizations, students and civil society organizations”, Haruna said, adding that Governor Abubakar Sani Bello was also worried about the power situation in Niger State.
The government was presently distributing 5,000 meters all in an effort to assist in improving electricity supply for socio-economic growth and development of the state, adding, “Every Nigerlite from the governor to the ordinary person is concerned about the poor power situation”.
