Doors were never shut on Wike, others — Atiku

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has again expressed his commitment to resolving the crisis currently rocking the party.

The former Vice President said in a statement on Thursday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, that the resolution of the crisis would pave the way for a much stronger and united PDP.

The statement comes in the wake of reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers and his group were favourably disposed to resolving the contentious issues.

Governors Wike, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, nicknamed G5, have refused to support Atiku’s presidential bid if Iyorchia Ayu does not resign as the party’s national chairman.

Atiku had insisted that Ayu will not be forced to leave office.

In the statement on Thursday, however, he noted that at no time had the doors been shut against Wike and his group.

He implored every leader of the party, along with their supporters, to be open-minded and support the reconciliation process.
