Sequel to Super Eagles qualification to Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and expected trophy win on Sunday, former national team player and Coach Sunday Oliseh has advised the federal government not to make promises to players it cannot keep.

Oliseh was on ARISE television on Thursday reviewing Super Eagles match against South Africa where he said promises made by the federal government to teams after landmark achievement at the Olympics and AFCON had remained unfulfilled till date and cautioned that it would be appreciated not to promise the boys anything if they win the trophy.

“In 1994, 2013, promises were made to teams till today, some of the players are yet to receive it. Most of them are dead, there’s no point making promises Government cannot fulfill,” he said.

On the match on Sunday against host county Cote D’Ivoire, the Belgium based ex-International said Eagles have many qualities to win the match, but must avoid complacency.

“Nigeria will be up against 12 players, Cote D’Ivoire would be backed by overwhelming home support, Eagles have to manage that properly.”

He, however, said the host county cannot match Super Eagles attacking machine.
Oliseh called on football authorities in Nigeria to halt the frequent turnover of players in the National team and give home based players a chance in Super Eagles to strive, adding, that’s how blending, continuity in the team would be achieved.
