Dolphins players await govt’s largesse

-

After the management of Dolphins FC had paid its players arrears of entitlements till the last league match against Sharks FC, the players are now calling on the state government to fulfil its part of the bargain.

Defender, Victor Ezuruike, who confirmed that the club is no longer indebted to the players, was quick to add that they are now waiting on the state government’s promise.

He said: “The monies were paid just before the game against Sharks. We also talked about the enhanced salaries and last season’s sign-on fees, and an agreement was reached.

“We just hope that the state government can keep to the promise and let us get the money, as it is very important to us.”

General Manager of Dolphins FC, Joe Johnson, corroborated his player by saying that the club is no more indebted to the players.

He said: “All outstanding match bonuses have been paid to date and, of course, we do not owe salaries.”

He, however, refused to comment on the issue of outstanding sign-on fees, insisting that anything regarding sign-on fees belongs to the Rivers State government.

“We hope to get a listening ear from the governor as promised by the Sports Commissioner and we believe that it will be sorted out before the end of the season,” Johnson said.
