Document shows over 100 senior police officers, including AIG, CPs, others for forced retirement
By Ishaya Ibrahim
No less than 34 senior police officers have been asked to proceed on retirement, per document sighted by TheNiche containing names of the affected officers.
Among the officers that would be proceeding on the forced retirement include former Commissioner of Police in Federal Capital Territory, Benneth Igweh, who only last year September was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG).
Also in for retirement is a former Personal Assistant to Retired Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, CP Peter Ukachi Opara who served briefly as Cross River and FCT police boss.

In the list sighted by TheNiche, there are 127 police officers asked to proceed on the involuntary retirement.

According to the document, the officers have been due for retirement between 2021 and 2022 but remained in the service of the Nigeria Police Force with the justification that their service year does not start counting from the day of enlistment, but day of appointment.
For instance, in the case of Benneth Igweh, his year of enlistment into the police was January 5, 1988, meaning he ought to have retired two years ago. But because the police was previously using date of appointment to count service year (and his was 1996) his retirement was extended to 2028 when he would have turned 60.
