Former federal lawmaker Dino Melaye, who represented the Kogi West senatorial district, has stated that the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, cannot become Nigeria’s President, despite describing him as a “fantastic” person.
He made these remarks on Thursday during an appearance as a guest on a Channels Television programme.
According to Melaye, who contested the most recent Kogi State gubernatorial election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obi does not have what it takes to unify Nigeria.

Speaking during the interview, he said: “Let me even tell you, Peter Obi is a fantastic Nigerian. I have tremendous respect for him, and I’ve said it before—he is a fantastic person—but this is not his time to be President.”
Peter Obi has repeatedly declared his intention to contest the presidential election in 2027.
The former Anambra State governor came third in the 2023 presidential election behind Atiku Abubakar, the flag bearer of the PDP, and President BolaTinubu, who was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
