Despite the Inspector General of Police yielding to the #EndSARS# demand and consequently disbanding the anti-robbery squad, the #ENDSARS# protesters have taken over the Lekki toll gate and Murtala Mohammed International Airports in Lagos.

The seizing of these facilities have the capacity to ground Lagos within minutes.

For instance, Lekki toll gate is a strategic route for top business executives and high flying individuals who live in that part of the state.

The toll gate is also critically important because those who live in Lekki rely on it to access most part of Lagos, especially the Airport since they fall among the most frequently travel individuals.

The shutdown of the airport may also disrupt international and local flights as most airlines may start announcing cancellation of their flights since passengers and staff of the airports are not allowed entry and exit of the facility.

Yesterday, October 11, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, announced the scrapping of the dreaded police unit notorious for extortion and brutality. But the protesters have said that the scrapping was not enough because they fear that the outfit could assume a new name and continue with its brutality.

The protesters, who appear not to be led by any known individual, have completely sealed the toll gate and airport from being accessed.

A video of the protest shows that the protesters did not allow even men in military uniforms to access into the areas they have taken over.

President Muhammadu Buhari has not addressed the nation on the protest. A media aide to the governor of Kano State, Yunusa Tanko, popularly known by his twitter name @dawisu, was suspended from his post for criticising the president over his silence in the face of the growing tension over the SARS protest.

The protest has already become bloody in Ogbomosho. At least eight protesters have been reportedly killed by the police, including a child.
