Despite Buhari’s explanation, concern still mounts over his frailty

-

Despite his explanation last weekend that he is as fit as the fiddle, concern is still growing over the frailty of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), with many saying he may not be fit to contest the February election because of his state of health.

buhariThose close to him may have also differed on his frail-looking state with some thinking that his participation in the tortuous presidential election may not be in his interest health-wise, while others feel that he can go at it without much ado.

One of the sources close to the general believes that he cannot do much strenuous activity and will not be an active president if he wins in the February election.

The source added that Buhari’s old age not withstanding, his health may not be too good for strenuous duty, noting that the general’s doctors have advised him against much energy-demanding political activism.

Last year, it was reported that Buhari paid regular visits abroad because of his failing health. It was also rumored that he collapsed on stage at a campaign rally in Calabar on January 7 this year, but the party sees all these as political propaganda designed by the Peoples Democratic Party to undermine Buhari’s electoral chances in the February 14 poll.

Regardless, a northerner residing in Lagos, Alhaji Idris Musa has described the choice of Buhari as an agenda of southerners to perpetuate themselves in power. Musa queried the rationale of picking an old and frail looking candidate when other young and active northerners are available. “Southerners want a northern president who will die in office after few months so that they can continue to rule,” he stated. He called on northerners to vote for Buhari’s opponent, Goodluck Jonathan in the February election so that 2019 will be certain for the north to occupy Aso Rock. It will be recalled that Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola warned that old people should not contest elective positions. According to him, they will be sleeping in office, doing nothing.
