Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has demanded that the United States President, Donald Trump, should apologize for threats and unacceptable remarks he made about the country.

The federal lawmaker made the demand on Friday in a now-trending viral video on several social media platforms.

Trump recently designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), citing the alleged killings of Christians in the country.

In addition, the former U.S. leader vowed to withdraw all aid and invade the West African country with the US military if its government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”

Reacting to the threat, Jibrin berated Trump for labelling Nigeria “a disgraced country,” describing the statement as “offensive and undiplomatic.”

He also condemned the invasion threat, arguing it would amount to a violation of diplomatic norms and international law.

Speaking via the video, he said: “But for now, for the President of the United States to come in and say, ‘Oh, you are doing this and we are going to attack you, and Nigeria is a disgraced country’ — this is quite unacceptable.

“We feel that he should understand, then retract that statement and apologise to Nigeria.”

Jibrin went on to say Trump’s remarks were inconsistent with the values America claims to uphold, insisting that no foreign leader had the right to issue military threats without due process.
