Momodu noted that despite the “different factions” within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and infighting in various states involving the ruling party, INEC chose not to “touch them”.

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is plotting to become the sole presidential candidate during the 2027 general elections.
The media mogul levelled the allegation against Nigeria’s incumbent president on Wednesday night in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page.

Momodu was reacting to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-recognise the ADC leadership led by David Mark.
While interpreting a recent Court of Appeal ruling, the electoral body stated: “Since the names of the current National Working Committee members led by Senator David Mark were uploaded on 9th September 2025 by INEC (seven days after the suit was instituted), the names would be removed from the INEC portal pursuant to the order of the Court of Appeal to maintain the status quo ante bellum until the matter is decided by the trial court.”
Reacting to the development, Momodu chided the electoral body, describing it as a “debilitating albatross” around the country’s neck.
He also claimed that the last time a president attempted to be the sole candidate in an election was under the late General Sani Abacha.
He further noted that despite the “different factions” in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and infighting in different states by the ruling party, INEC chose not to “touch them”.
Speaking via his verified handle, Momodu said: “INEC has been a debilitating albatross on Nigeria. Our country has waltzed from bad to worse since the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, which was apparently won by Chief Moshood Abiola.
“The speed at which the current INEC swiftly recognised the Wike faction of the PDP immediately convinced me of the robotic nature of our INEC.
“There are different factions in the APC fighting in different states, but INEC cannot touch them. With all the governors coerced or cajoled and cheaply converted to the APC, the ruling party is still feverishly jittery.
“Now that INEC has summarily ‘de-recognised’ the ADC, the last hope would be the courts, and even 그곳 is very precarious. But there’s always the God factor, which is always beyond human comprehension and expectation.
“The ultimate aim of Tinubu and his acolytes is to produce a sole candidate in the 2027 presidential election. The last time such a brazen attempt was made was during the Abacha era, 1993–1998. It is true indeed that humans hardly learn didactic lessons from history.”
