The five-year era of Ibrahim Magu as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may be truly and finally over with the appointment of another acting chairman, Mohammed Umar, on Wednesday.

According to NAN, a top official of the commission confirmed that Umar, the director of operations at the EFCC, has taken charge of the agency in the absence of Ibrahim Magu.

Magu was arrested on Monday and whisked to the presidential villa in Abuja where he was grilled by a panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari and headed by Justice Ayo Salami, a retired president of the Court of Appeal.

Umar, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, is the second highest ranking EFCC official

Magu, who is still in police custody was suspended on Tuesday.

His travails followed a memo by Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), in which the suspended anti-graft czar was accused of grave malfeasance.
