Economic activities in parts of Lagos continued to nosedive following the Lagos State government’s order that Lagosians should stay at home for a period of seven days in the first instance to checkmate the spread of deadly Coronavirus.
A check by TheNiche correspondent around Orile- Iganmu axis of Lagos State showed that economic activities have greatly dwindled along the popular Bode Thomas and Adeniran Ogunsanya Streets in Surulere area.
Major stores/shops and boutiques were locked up while the few that managed to open are selling with caution.
Movements in the ever busy streets were scanty as very few people were walking to their various destinations without caring for buses.
At the Orile building materials market, the entire shops were locked while few traders were hanging around to catch customers that were desperate to purchase one building material or the other.
A check at Doyin end of Orile showed that commercial buses lined up waiting for passengers who came in trickles.
As expected, armed policemen and soldiers deployed to the area were parading, monitoring the area to ensure compliance with the order.
Financial institutions like Fidelity and Access banks experienced low turnout of customers who were made to sit under the canopy outside the bank, while entering the banking hall in turns.
Business activities on Bale and Savage Streets in Orile/Coker road, noticeably went down as many shops/stores were under lock.
However, medicine stores/pharmacy, eateries/restaurants were open to business. Foodstuff shops were also selling.
