DAWN Commission lauds Lagos for excellent hosting

The Director General of Development Agenda for Western Nigerian (DAWN) Commission, Dr. Dipo Famakinwa has expressed the gratitude of the Commission to the government and people of Lagos State for a successful hosting of the just concluded maiden South-West Secondary School Games tagged DAWN Games 2014.

In a message of appreciation conveyed to the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the tournament, which was staged from May 16 to 24 in Lagos, the Director General said: “Let me use this opportunity to express the gratitude of the entire management and staff of the DAWN Commission for the excellent way in which Lagos State hosted the recently-concluded DAWN Games 2014.

He added: “I must say that this has been the most eloquent signpost of the Southwest regional integration agenda so far and we are all are very proud of what the Lagos State Government has done. Apart from the organisational excellence, we also appreciate the great hospitality and friendliness shown to everyone.”According to him, the DAWN Commission believes that Lagos, which is known as the ‘Centre of Excellence’ has laid a good foundation for future hosts of the DAWN Games to follow, adding that there are some lessons that must be leant from the hosting. “We hope to continue to take advantage of the lessons from the Lagos Games for subsequent events,” he said.

 

The multi sports championship featured over 2000 athletes and officials from Lagos, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo and Ogun States. The first edition was won by Team Lagos with a total of 177 medals of 89 gold, 60 silver and 28 bronze medals. Ogun and Oyo finished second and third respectively.
