Nigerian singer, entertainer, and music producer, David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido has finally identified 292 orphanages and distributed the N250 million donation kept in Wema bank to them.
Sometimes in November last year, the 29-year-old while celebrating his birthday threw a challenge at his friends, family, and colleagues in the entertainment world, asking them to send him N1 million each to acquire a special car to mark his special day.
After the video message sent by Davido went viral, the singer was able to realize over N100 million, which grew to N 200 Million. He later added N50 million to the money to reach the N250 million mark.
Davido then announced he would not be using the money for himself as earlier suggested but would be donating it as charity to orphanages across the country.

To this extent, he set up a committee to identify the orphanages that would benefit from the N250 million and oversee its disbursement.
Giving an update, the DMW label boss in a statement on his Instagram page on Tuesday, revealed that the money has been disbursed and displayed receipt of successful transactions to 292 orphanages in all the States in Nigeria, including the FCT.
He went on to say the committee after a thorough process identified the 292 orphanages and distributed the N250 million to the homes accordingly.
He also said he attached the list of the beneficiaries to the statement in the ‘spirit of transparency’ and that he was updating his fans, friends, and family.
He said, “As promised, a five-man disbursement committee was set up. Since its inauguration, the members of this committee have worked tirelessly to ensure that they collate the names and information of documented and verified orphanages. I am pleased to announce that the disbursement of funds is complete.
“So far, the total of N250,000,000 has been disbursed to 292 orphanages.
“As promised in my first statement, I have listed/attached the names and amounts disbursed to the various orphanages. In the spirit of transparency, I thought it wise to give you my loyal supporters, fans, friends, and family an update in this regard.”
The multiple award winning Davido later thanked those who contributed the money and the committee who worked tirelessly to ensure the recipient got their shares.
“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that made this possible, the committee of high caliber and principled people who dedicated their time to ensure this task was expeditiously carried out, my wonderful family, friends, and well-wishers. Thank you for your continuous support and love,” Davido added.
