Dangote Refinery denies viral fuel-delivery motorcycle hoax

By Habiba Kaita

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied a viral video that claimed it launched a motorcycle fuel-delivery service called “FeelUp”.

A viral video on X (formally twitter) showed riders delivering petrol to cars in Lagos. The post said the refinery created the service to help drivers avoid long queues during Nigeria’s ongoing fuel shortage.

Dangote quickly released a statement on November 16, 2025, saying it had nothing to do with the service. The Dangote Groups also posted on X, writing, “We are not in any way associated with this.”

According to the refinery, it only supplies fuel in bulk to filling stations and industries, not to individual drivers.

The false video caused concern online because transporting petrol on motorcycles can easily lead to fires or explosions.

This is not the first time a fuel-related video has caused confusion in Nigeria. In 2024, a viral clip claimed Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) was selling “adulterated fuel” in bottles and jerrycans, NNPC stated it does not dispense petrol that way.

Another video that spread earlier compared NNPC fuel to Dangote fuel and claimed Dangote’s lasted longer, but NNPC dismissed the claim as fake and threatened legal action against the creators.

These claims highlight the spread of misinformation, and shows how viral videos can create panic amongst people and raises questions around safety and reputation of both users and companies.
