Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has fired a shot at National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, over comment that social media is a threat to national security.

Ribadu, at a meeting with spokespersons of organisations under the umbrella of Strategic Communication Interagency Policy Committee, said the negative use of social media constituted both local and global threats.

He said, “Across the world, we have also assessed the adept use of social media platforms by those who seek power to shape public opinion against citizens. This threat is both global and local and presents an immediate national security priority.

“The urgency to prepare and be proactive in our security strategic communication management is now, and the spokespersons have a critical role to play.”

In a rebuttal, Dalung, a staunch supporter of the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, said only clueless and incompetent leaders see social media as a threat.

He said: “@NuhuRibadu NSA has attacked freedom of speech by describing social media as a national security threat. Indeed it’s a threat to an incompetence, corrupt, clueless and illegitimate regime without which humanity would have been extinct by usurpers using public resources for jamboree.”
