The tartan tracks in Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin produced a set of sprinters with new nationals titles on home soil.
The duo of Favour Ashe and Grace Nwokocha became the 100m National Champios for the first time in their young career.
At the World Athletics Championship and Commonwealth Games Trials today Ashe returned 9:99 seconds in the men’s finals to place first position while Nwokocha also placed first position in 11: O6 secs.in the women’s 100m finals.
Spectators were thrilled following the improved feat of both athletes in the 100m race which was won last year at Yaba tech stadium in Lagos by Blessing Okagbare and Enoch Adegoke respectively.
Expectedly, Nigeria’s 100m sprint Hurdler Tobi Amusan won her event in 12: 53secs.
By this achievement, Ashe Favuor is now among 12 Nigeria sprinters to run Sub 10 seconds in Nigeria.
In their post interview response, Ashe expressed gratitude in the way the race went and was thankful to his Colleagues for aiding his rise.
“I thank all for urging me on especially my colleagues who ran with me to achieve my first national title.
I’m glad this is my first national tiitle, I’m happy and grateful”
For Grace Nwokocha, it’s all joy for have won her first national title in Benin.

In his comment, Olympic 4×400m men’s relay gold medalist Aniefiok Udo-Obong praised all athletes that participated in the Championship, adding that aside the performances witnessed today in Benin, Nigeria is currently harvesting a new set of sprinters that had seized the moment to win titles.

There are few athletes missing in this Trials owing to one injury or the other, they would be back at the World Athletics Championship and Commonwealth Games.
Our team to the world championship and Birmingham Games would be good based on these brilliant performances, said Udo-Obong.
The Trials which started on Thursday would be rounded off on Sunday in Benin.
