Robert Ewa, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Cross River State, has passed away.
Nsa Gill, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, confirmed the news to journalists on Thursday.
Ewa died at a medical facility in Calabar shortly after attending the state’s executive council meeting on Wednesday.
According to Gill, Ewa actively participated in the meeting, contributing to discussions before excusing himself.

“Ewa died yesterday, he was present at the state executive council meeting, he even contributed during the presentation,” the spokesperson said.
“A few minutes later, he excused himself and I think his driver drove him to the clinic. So we never knew that he went to a hospital. So it was in the hospital that he went to, that news came back to the governor that he had died.”
The sudden death of the commissioner came as a shock to Otu and the state government, with an official statement expected to be released soon, Gill said.
Before he was appointed commissioner, Ewa held various leadership positions including Secretary and later Chairman of Boki Local Government Area. He also served as Special Adviser on Community Relations and Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force.
