Crisis rocks Federal Science College

-

Peace enjoyed by staff and students at the Federal Science and Technology College, Ijebu-Imusin, Ogun State is being shattered following the purported dissolution of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) by the Principal, A.C. Opara.

A petition signed by Chairman, Ajiboye Adedapo; National Parents and Teachers Association of Federal Government Colleges (NAPTAFEGC) South West Coordinator, Bola Famuwagun, and other members insisted that the executive committee is still intact.

It warned that anyone who transacts business with the executive committee set up by Opara after the last meeting of the PTA on October 17 does so at his or her own risk.

The petitioners cited the rules on dissolution of the executive as stated in Article IV Section 2 of the NAPTAFEGC constitution which also stipulates the tenure of PTA officers.

They threatened legal action against Opara if she does not stop tampering with the tenure of the present executive.

According to them, the rules stipulate that any parent/guardian who no more has a child or ward in any Federal Government College ceases to be a member of the PTA executive at the expiration of his/ her tenure.

They noted that the tenure of the present executive will expire in July in the 2016/2017 academic session and wondered why Opara unilaterally dissolved the executive.

The petitioners alleged that Opara became uncomfortable with the PTA executive because it did not give her access to the PTA’s money, approve illegal levies, pay food subsidy as well as award contracts.

They appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to call her to order in the interest of peace and tranquility, as the crisis may affect the smooth running of the school.
