The crack in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to have widened as the National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, and the National Women Leader, Hajiya Fati Ramtu Tijjani, avoided the National Chairman, John Oyegun, while presiding over the official programme for the second-term endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari; and Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello of Niger State in Minna at the weekend.
Both top party officials hurriedly left Minna before the arrival of Oyegun, whom sources said had issue with them. While the endorsement ceremony was going on at the Trade Fair Complex, Minna, the defected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were also being received at Government House by Oyegun.
But APC senators, David Umaru, and Mustapha Sani, representing zones ‘B’ and ‘A’ (Niger-East and Niger-South), respectively, were absent at both events, just as most of the House of Representatives members, including the most popular of them, Hon. Umar Bago. Bago did not attend both events. Meanwhile, the APC National Chairman, John Oyegun, at the ceremony, praised Buhari as Nigeria’s leader. He said that Nigeria was better-off with President Buhari considering his developmental changes in the past two years.
He therefore urged Nigerians to support the call on President Muhammadu Buhari to accept the re-election bid come next year.
The APC national chairman argued that despite onslaught by Social Media, President Muhammadu Bigari still enjoys massive under-current support from a cross-section of Nigerians. Oyegun, accompanied on the visit by the National Organising Secretary, Mr. Osita Izunaso, was received at Government House by Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello on Saturday.
