COVID-19: U.S. evacuates citizens from Nigeria

Even as the United States becomes the new global epicentre of the novel Coronavirus, the U.S. Consulate in Nigeria has confirmed multiple emergency flights to evacuate its citizens out of the country.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the Consulate said the flights will depart from Lagos and Abuja this week.

It advised its citizens not to rush to the airport as they will be contacted directly when their flight is ready.

In the meantime, the Consulate told its citizens to be patient and continue to self-isolate, using the term “shelter in place” and await further information.

It also assured that the US Department of State remains committed to the welfare of its constituents abroad.

The U.S. has the highest number of confirmed with over 3,000 falaties. Nigeria has only 131 confirmed cases with only two death.

Last week, Israel also evacuated its citizens back home from Nigeria.
