The first day – Tuesday , March 31, 2020 – of the total lockdown of Lagos State by the Federal Government to curtail the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus (COVID-19) recorded partial compliance in the state.
As early as 6:00am on Tuesday vehicular movements along major roads of Okota Isolo, Lagos, which used to be heavy reduced.
Only few tankers and pedestrians were seen on the ever-bussy roads.
But in the afternoon, more people were seen loitering the streets at Okota, with a Police van packed at Okota roundabout.
However, it was business as usual inside the streets of Okota, Ago and Isolo.
Some children were seen playing football in the streets of Okota instead of staying indoors as government ordered.
At Mile 12 market in Ketu, traders were seen sleeping.
Some of them said that they came into Lagos last night ignorant of the curfew.
According to one of them, Abdullai Mohammed, “I thought of living the market early in the morning but was disappointed as there were no vehicles. I don’t know what to do no.”
The situation was the same at Sattelite. People complied with the sit-at-home order.
At the Flour Mills Estate, residents were indoors, as some of them exhibited their wares outside, as few private vehicles were seen plying the roads.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday declared a total shutdown of Lagos, Ogun and Abuja to stop the spread of Coronavirus.
