COVID-19: IBEDC donates food items worth N10m to Kwara, promises not to disconnect non-paying customers

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has donated food items worth N10m to Kwara State Government in support of the government’s palliatives for citizens who were asked to stay indoor as a measure to contain the spread of coronavirus in the state.

The IBEDC is replicating this gesture in other states of its coverage namely Oyo, Ogun, Osun,  and parts of Ekiti, Kogi and Niger.

The Kwara regional head of the IBEDC, Musbau Balogun while making the donation to the state government on behalf of the company said the items include 2,500pcs of 5kg of rice, 3000pc of 1kg of semovitas and 1500 cartons of noodles.

Balogun said the company was making the donation as part of its corporate social responsibility to the states where it operates.

He commended the proactive measures the federal and state governments employed in fighting the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The regional head said the company would provide its customers regular power supply as much as it is within its remit and control while it would not disconnect non-paying customers during this period of the pandemic except the disconnection is based on safety advisory.

“Our staff on essential duty, the technical crew are on ground to repair faults promptly. All this is being done to support the various government initiatives and to help reduce the hardship the lockdown has occasioned on citizens,” he stated.

The state Deputy Governor and chairman of the Techinical Committee on COVID-19, Kayode Alabi, who together with the chairman of the  state committee on palliative measure, Dr Haliru Yahaya, received the donation praised the IBEDC for the gesture

“On behalf of my boss, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the entire people of the state who we are going to share these food items to I thank you so much for the donation,” he said.

Also speaking, Dr Yahaya who doubles as the Emir of Shonga commended the IBEDC for the gesture.
