A Chief Magistrate Court in Port-Hacourt, Rivers State will on September 25, 2023 deliver judgement on the rape and assault case of a 20 years-old female student of the Rivers State University, by a suspended lecturer of the same University, Professor David Ogbonna.

Professor Ogbonna was first arraigned by the Rivers State Police Command on charges of rape and sexual assault of a female student in the Department of Micro-Biology in Rivers State University.
The Rivers State government later indicated interest to take over the prosecution of the matter.
