A court has remanded a woman in a correctional facility to sober up for at least a couple of days for allegedly inflicting a wound on the manhood of her boyfriend.
An Ekiti Magistrate’s Court remanded Joy Ikoja, 20, upon police arraignment over her alleged unlawful tearing of the scrotal sac of Ibarahim Usman.
Police prosecutor Adeboye Adesegun, an Inspector, alleged that Ikoja committed the offence at about 8pm on April 12 in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti.
“The defendant did unlawfully inflict a wound on one Ibrahim Usman by tearing his scrotal sac,” Adesegun told the court.
“The defendant on the same date, time and place, did conduct herself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace in the society.
“The offence committed is punishable under sections 186, 255 256(a) and 181(d) of Criminal Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021.”
Adesegun urged the court to refuse the defendant’s bail, saying she may jump bail.
Defence counsel David Ogbede pleaded for her bail assuring that she would not jump bail, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty under the law.
But Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola turned down the bail application and ordered Ikoja remanded at the correctional custody in Ado Ekiti.
The case was adjourned until April 22 for a hearing.
