Court fixes March 14 for ruling on drug trafficker’s bail application

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned till Mach 14, 2025 ruling on the bail application filed by an alleged drug trafficker Ekeocha Anayo Nelson.
The defendant Ekeocha Anayo Nelson had earlier been arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before the Court on a one count charge of exporting 4.40 kilogrammes of Cocaine to the United Kingdom via Cologne Germany through the NAHCO Export Shed, a Custom Area at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Upon the arraignment of the defendant, his counsel Chief Benson Ndakara had informed the court of a pending bail application and urged the court to allow him move same.
After moving the said application which was strongly opposed by the prosecutor Bibiana Eze of the NDLEA, Justice Aneke adjourned ruling on the said bail application till March 14, 2025.
He ordered the defendant to be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre Ikoyi, pending the ruling on his application
The one count charge against the defendant reads: That you, EKEOCHA ANAYO NELSON, Male, Adult, on or about the 5’* day of November, 2024 during the examination and clearing of cargo for export to the United Kingdom (UK) via Cologne, Germany at NAHCO Export Shed, a Custom Area of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja – Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without lawful authority, exported 4.40 kilogrammes of Cocaine, a narcotic drug and thereby committed an act which is an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, CAP N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
