Court dissolves 16-year-old marriage in Jos

Court also gave custody of the children to the wife and ordered the husband to send N 30,000 as “monthly upkeep”

An Area Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Friday dissolved a 16-year-old marriage between Hussaina Abdullahi and her husband, Saidu Ali.

According to NAN, prior to the dissolution of the marriage, the petitioner, Hussaina had told the court that she got married to Saidu in 2008.

She also said she is no longer in love with her husband and that she is willing to refund the bride price he paid 16-years-ago.

She said, “Our marriage lacks peace and love. I no longer love Saidu and can no longer live with him as his wife.

“I am ready to refund the N40,000 dowry he paid for my hand in marriage”

Hussaina Abdullahi further prayed for custody of their two children.

While delivering judgment, the judge, Lawal Suleiman, granted the wife’s prayer of for divorce.

The judge also gave custody of the children to Abdullahi and ordered Ali to send N 30,000 monthly through the court for the upkeep of their two children.

The court further added that Ali must also pay the children’s school fees.
