Musician Davido has called on Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to congratulate the governor-elect of the state, Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, defeated Oyetola, who sought re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, at the polls held in July.

The PDP won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas of the state, while the APC won the remaining 13, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Adeleke scored a total of 403, 371 votes while Oyetola got 375, 027 votes.

In a tweet on Saturday, Davido, who is a nephew to Adeleke, called on the governor to congratulate his uncle on the win.

Referencing the controversial 2018 governorship election held in the state, the singer added, “In 2018, my uncle congratulated you even though it was stolen. Do the right thing baba, one love.”

The comments from Davido came after Oyetola filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo, urging the tribunal to nullify the polls.

In his petition, the Governor argued that the election was fraught with irregularities.

He also said that Adeleke ought not to have been declared winner, as he was not qualified to have contested the election in the first place, having submitted a forged certificate to INEC.

A member of Oyetola’s legal team, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), told PUNCH on Saturday immediately after filing the petition in Osogbo that the governor has assembled 50 lawyers including 10 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, listing 13 grounds on which premises Adeleke should be disqualified.
