Commotion in House of Representatives over host communities cut in PIB

-

A commotion broke out today in the House of Representatives when the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) came up for discussion.

The noise was so loud that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, suspend the plenary, and took select members of the House leadership to his office for what an ‘executive session.’

The trigger for the rowdy actions in the Green Chamber was the reduction in the approved percentage accruing to host communities from five per cent to three per cent.

The House had earlier voted five per cent for host communities in the PIB earlier passed while the Senate passed three per cent.

A lawmaker, Chinyere Igwe, protested by screaming on top of his voice over the reduction of the percentage for host communities.

“It must be 5%,” he screamed before the arrival of Speaker Gbajabiamila.

When the Speaker arrived, the noise became louder, forcing him to ask the House to go for an executive session.
