Chrisland: Whitney Adeniran died of electrocution – Lagos govt

On Wednesday, Whitney’s mother, Blessing Adeniran, announced in a live Instagram session that the autopsy had been concluded and it revealed her child was electrocuted.

Whitney Adeniran, the 12-year-old student of Chrisland High School, died from asphyxia and electrocution, Lagos State Government said on Thursday.

According to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, the post-mortem report issued by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday showed that the deceased cause of death revealed asphyxia and electrocution.

Onigbanjo said in a statement that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions had been instructed to issue legal advice on the matter with immediate effect.

“The Lagos State Government commiserates with the deceased family while reassuring Lagosians that anybody found culpable would immediately be charged to court,” the statement read.

On February 13, Onigbanjo ordered a coroner’s inquest to ascertain the cause of death of the late Whitney, who died during the school’s inter-house sports on February 9.

Whitney was buried on Thursday in Lagos.

The school had said she slumped in the full glare of the public and not under controversial circumstances, adding that it tried to resuscitate her.

But Whitney’s father, Dr. Michael Adeniran, insisted that he learnt from his child’s classmates at Chrisland that she died of electrocution.
