Mr Liu Kan, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China’s Consulate-General in Lagos, on Thursday announced his government’s plan to provide more opportunities for Nigeria’s younger generation.
Liu, who made the disclosure at the Open Day of the Consulate-General in Lagos, also said that his government would strengthen people-to-people relationship between Nigerians and Chinese.
The envoy said that to mark the Day, 50 pupils of Itedo Community Nursery and Primary School, Eti-Osa, were specially invited to the consulate premises in Lagos.
Liu said that the pupils were exposed to China’s history, culture and opportunities.
“Today is a day that the Chinese Consulate-Generals set aside as an Open Day. And to celebrate this Day, we have invited 50 pupils from this Itedo Community Primary School.
“The purpose is to expose Nigerian people, especially the younger generation to begin to understand the history, culture and opportunities that China have for them.
“We believe that creating mutual understanding between our two countries and the peoples is the foundation for our further development and relations,’’ he said.
Mr Tolu Ogungbulogbe, Head Teacher of the School, who led the pupils to the consulate, commended the Consul-General for exposing the pupils to consulate’s operations, China’s history, culture and opportunities.
Ogungbulogbe said that the Consul-General had last year intervened in the poor state of the school’s environment.
The head teacher said that the Consul-General’s invitation of the pupils to the open day was a further demonstration of his commitment to younger Nigerians development.
He said that the gesture would further spur the school’s management to continue to develop the pupils morally, socially and academically.
The pupils were conducted round the visa processing offices, Chinese ceramics, furniture, paintings, writing symbols, historical pictures of China and Nigeria’s past and present leaders, as well as Ambassadors and Consul-Generals.
