Veteran singer and actor, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has said the decision of a local government in Lagos State to rename popular “Charly Boy Bus Stop” in Bariga area of the state does not bother him.

He made this known in a chat with DAILY POST on Saturday, while reacting to the news.

Several media outlets had earlier reported that the popular bus stop was changed to “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop”, in honour of rapper and Bariga native, Olamide Adedeji.

The announcement was made public during the commissioning of local projects in Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday.

The outgoing LCDA Chairman, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, revealed the changes as part of his final acts in office.

Aside from the renaming of “Charly Boy Bus Stop“, other locations in Bariga were also renamed after notable Nigerians, especially from the entertainment and sports industry.

Reacting to the development when contacted, Charly Boy simply said: “Na dem sabi”.

However, the renaming of the bus stop, stirred reactions from social media users.

An X user identified as Ola wrote, “If the person behind this decision was truly born and raised in Bariga, he/she would know that the bus stop is actually known as Second Pedro Bus Stop—not Charly Boy Bus Stop. This is a clear example of how political bitterness can distort historical and communal facts.”

Another netizen, AKIN OMO AKIN said, “Nobody named it Charlyboy bus stop in the first place, Charlyboy named it after himself without any authorization from the local government.”

While OG Beeperl reacted by saying, “Baddo is kuku greater than Charly wayray and his entire generation anyway.”

Many other Nigerians who commented  accused the state government of playing bitter politics.
