After a viral interview where she confessed to sleeping with lecturers to pass her exams, skitmaker and actress, Chinwe Splendor, has revealed that the university has demanded that she return the degree certificate.

On her Facebook page, Chinwe Splendor claims to be a graduate of Mass Communication from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Anambra.

During a viral infamous interview on Chijioke Igwendu’s Gbam podcast, Chinwe Splendor revealed how she slept with lecturers to get her way through school while disclosing how she struggled to fund her education with sex work. She had revealed resorting to sex work because of her parents poor financial background.

She said: “When I gained admission, I was managing until a point where there was no other way, and I had to go into prostitution. I have slept with many men in Anambra State. Sometimes, I didn’t attend lectures because I was too tired from the previous day’s stress. Along the line, I looked for a way to cover up and started sleeping with lecturers. There was a particular year that I didn’t attend lectures, but I passed all my papers. Although it wasn’t easy, I didn’t want to drop out. I slept with many lecturers and graduated with a good grade.”

But the decision to appear on the podcast and share her life struggles backfired as the university demanded that she return the certificate awarded to her.

On X, Nigerians have reacted to the issue.

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, sympathized with Chinwe Splendor.

He said: “When I saw this video I was so unsettled, I almost judged this woman without knowing her story, till a little voice out of curiosity told me to go to Yan kontent Factory. Gbam. On You-tube where I watched the full interview of our sister. I cried before her interview finished. There is a story behind every person, a reason why they are the way they are. Don’t be quick to judge. Be kind and assume the best.”

Former board chairwoman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Lauretta Onochie said Chinwe Splendor may be suffering from mental health.

She said: “There are Mental Health Crises in our nation, particularly among our younger generation and some leaders. But each time I spot signs of mental illness in a person and I say it, everybody just laughs. But it’s not a laughing matter. It’s a serious matter.

“I am not a Psychiatrist but I have a great deal of academic knowledge on mental health illness. For starters, everyone should read up on how to identify mental health issues so they can support their family members, battling all forms of mental issues to GET HELP!

“This young lady needs her family right now because it will get worse if they do not get help for her.

“The University does not need to tell her to return her certificate. They can just withdraw or annul it and inform her. They want her to return it so they can warn her not to name names. She will.”

Other commenters on X also weigh in on the matter.

@BabatundeBaba19 said: “She has not been sick today, way back at school for her 80/90% slept with lecturers. She forced herself on them the way she spoke. I guess.”

@Adekol5 said: “She shouldn’t have said that on live TV except if she was abused and frustrated. She should go ahead and mention all the lecturers she slept with if she doesn’t want to suffer alone.”

@opeandqudus said: “Are they going to sack all those lecturers as well? That’s the only way things get balanced. Universities have every right to withdraw the certificate if you are found wanting in character. The certificate is not only for academics. But many students don’t even know this little fact.”
