The trial of Okon Etim who is accused of raping two children, Akuvin, 8-year-old, and Obama, 9-year-old,  has been adjourned to September 18 because the police officer-in-charge of the case said she is heavily pregnant and having a bed rest.

The case was last heard by the Lagos High court, Ikeja Judicial Division (Special Offenses) before Justice S O Solebo on May 31, 2018.

The prosecutor told the judge that when the officer-in-charge of the case was called on the phone, she said she was heavily pregnant and having a bed rest.

The victim’s father was also not available in court because of his work schedule. He pleaded to be informed of the next adjourned date.

The judge queried the prosecution for the delay and for not calling other witnesses since they have six witnesses for the trial.

“You should have called other witnesses. We cannot continue to wait for them. Go sit down and master your case and file your argument. We need to make progress,” Justice Solebo said.
