The home side opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Reece James found German striker Kai Havertz with a nice pass which he brilliantly tucked away to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead.

The home side continued to dominate ball possession and goalmouth actions but were unable to add to their tally before the end of the first half, as Burnley’s rearguard remained resolute.
