Reno Omokri, a former social media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari’s poor handling of Nigeria’s economy for the decline of Aliko Dangote in the Global Billionaires index.

Dangote moved downwards – from 25th richest man in the world eight years ago to now 117th

The latest index places Dangote in the 117th position, with many newcomers overtaking the industrialist.

The Global Billionaires Index is updated at the close of every trading day in the New York Stock Exchange.

While Elon Musk tops the list with a net worth of $194bn and closely followed by Jeff Bezos who also has a net worth of $194bn, Bernard Arnault took the third spot with $174bn.

Dangote is said to have a net worth of $17.8bn. In 2013, his net worth was $25 billion.

Omokri blames Buhari’s government economic failures for Dangote’s worsening ranking.

He says via Twitter: “Under Jonathan in 2013, @Forbes ranked Dangote the 25th richest person on Earth. Please research it. under Buhari in 2021, Forbes ranks him 117th richest. He has lost 40% of his 2013 net worth. Leadership matters. You can’t place a crown on a clown and expect a king!”
